Nunticia Pribvai’s food memories of Thailand pulled her into the restaurant industry. She was always thinking about the food that she was nourished on in her motherland. Bright and refreshing papaya salad. Aromatic stir-fries. Her food memories are so powerful that they inspired her to launch her restaurant Somtum Modern Thai Cuisine. Nunticia Pribvai: I would always think about the food my mother cooked for me in Thailand, and the Thai street food I ate while growing up there. One day I called my mother to tell her I wanted to eat stir-fry vegetables—my favorite salad dish that my mother liked to make. She taught me how to make it.
The idea of having a restaurant started to come together when the people around me said the food I cooked was good and delicious. “Somtum” is the Thai name for green papaya salad. It is one of the most popular dishes from the northeastern region. I am a big fan of somtum. That is the reason why I chose this name.
Everything starts with our love for Thai cuisine and the ambition to make our dream come true. Everyone who enters our restaurant is able to relax, eat delicious food, and feel like they are in Thailand.
