In 1971, San Jose State University student Mike Colber bought a struggling sandwich shop near campus and turned it into a sensation called Togo’s Sandwiches. His concept took off so quickly that it wasn’t long before he opened additional locations and by 1977 he turned Togo’s into a thriving franchise. The winning idea? Serve students budget-friendly, big, fresh and meaty sandwiches they crave and do it with a California sensibility. They use only the highest quality ingredients including fresh artisan breads, hand sliced premium pastrami, turkey and roast beef, as well as creamy Hass avocados – mashed fresh by hand every single day. The result, according to Biz Journal, is a huge word-of-mouth buzz and tremendously loyal fan base. There are nearly 300 locations open or under development all over the West Coast and the brand is still growing, expanding their menu to reach new customers and building deeper relationships with the communities where they’ve already endeared themselves.

So Many Choices, You Can’t Go Wrong

While the original Togo’s Sandwiches menu centered solely on sandwiches, today Togo’s catering offers a full spread including appetizers, box lunches, salads, sides, and desserts. Still, it’s those stuffed sandwiches that keep mouths watering and the popular “Create-your-own” Sandwich Tray comes with your choice of up to four types including Turkey and Cranberry, Cali Veggie, Turkey and Avocado and the Italian Sandwich- halved so everyone can try more than one. Round them out with one of their fresh and colorful Fruit and Vegetable Appetizer Trays and every person in your group will find something they like.

In keeping with that healthy California theme, Togo’s Sandwiches catering also offers six different salad choices which, depending on how much you order, are hearty enough for a main dish but work perfectly as a side. Their most popular is the Santa Fe Chicken Salad which is packed with mixed greens and avocado, tomatoes, black bean and corn salsa, cheddar, tortilla strips, and zesty pepitas dressing. Togo’s is always thinking of ways to appeal to new customers and recently added the Mediterranean Chicken Salad, BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad, to bulk up their greens offerings in addition to their Chicken Caesar Salad and a vegetarian Farmer’s Market Salad.

Finding the Right Order for the Right Event

Between the salads and sandwiches, there are plenty of options for a satisfying meal. For events where attendees plan to keep working while they eat, try the super easy boxed lunch, which includes a choice of sandwich (in two different sizes- 3” or 6”) plus a bag of chips and a cookie. For a festive spin, let guests put together their own combinations, by setting up a buffet of the meat and cheese and sandwich fixings trays. End on a sweet note with the assorted brownies and cookies. And also – remember that Togo’s sandwiches and salads are served cold which makes them a terrific choice for outdoor parties and picnics.
