May 9, 2012 — Today is National Butterscotch Brownie Day! The first brownie was baked in 1893 at Chicago's Palmer House Hotel when Mrs. Bertha Palmer asked the hotel chef to come up with an easy-to-eat dessert to be served with boxed lunches at The World's Fair. The brownie was thus born and has grown to be one of America's most popular desserts!

Butterscotch brownies are a cousin of the traditional chocolate brownie and are often known as “Blondies” due to their lighter coloring. They typically have a more cake-lake texture than chocolate brownies and are easy to make — all you need is brown sugar, flour, salt, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, baking powder, and (of course) butterscotch.

Ask your local caterer to whip up this tasty treat for your next meeting in honor of National Butterscotch Brownie Day. owder, salt, butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract,
